FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The following are a list of questions that are most frequently asked about AIRMAN

General Questions / Equipment Module / Miscellaneous Modules / SMS Module / Wildlife Module

General

I understand why AIRMAN utilizes dropdown lists, but can I still use the terminologies we’re accustomed to here?

Definitely. That is one of AIRMAN's strongest selling features. The less we disrupt your routine the better. With the exception of a few keywords, you can load in any terminology you want. We suggest some lists as they seem to be broadly accepted by all of our current customers, but you can change them to fit your needs.

What is the minimum operating requirement to run AIRMAN?

AIRMAN can run on any PC that utilizes W2000 or higher as an operating system…assuming it has a reasonable amount of RAM onboard to perform common tasks well.

I see you install AIRMAN using SQL Anywhere as the Database Management System. However, our IT folks prefer Microsoft SQL Server. Can AIRMAN run on that?

Yes. Currently AIRMAN supports 3 major Database Management Systems(DBMS). They are SQL Anywhere(Sybase), Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle.

Is AIRMAN networkable?

Yes. It can be a basic install on one dedicated machine only, or networked in the proven client/server fashion.

How can I see AIRMAN in action?

We offer a live demo over the web. You would have to contact us and we would arrange a convenient date and time to start. You would be given a link and password that would connect you directly to the demonstrators screen.

We have a minimal budget, can AIRMAN be leased?

Yes, leasing is available.

Do we have to purchase everything, or can we pick and choose?

You control the purchase process by determining which modules you need. And, inside some modules there are advanced features that may not apply to your operation and you can rule them out as well. If you want to add more later on as the budget allows then do so. Many of our clients expand in this manner. In short we tailor the package to fit your requirements and budget.

After purchase, how long do we have to wait until AIRMAN is installed?

That varies depending on many factors, the number of modules purchased, the level of installation, how quickly you can provide the custom lists you want to use, your location, etc. Typically you can expect a 4 – 8 week time frame for customization and delivery.

Equipment Module

Can AIRMAN warn us when a piece of equipment is due for PM’s?

Yes, if fact the warning can be triggered by three methods:

  • By a certain amount of days from a hard date, and
  • By a certain number of hours based on the units chronometer, and
  • By a certain number of miles/kilometers based on the units odometer

Can I log the items and labor I apply to each piece of equipment?

Yes, AIRMAN allows you to do that and gives you complete running totals of every dollar you’ve spent on a piece of equipment breaking it down by the parts, fluids and labor applied.

Miscellaneous Modules

We simply want to keep track of what keys we sign in and out, can AIRMAN help us with that?

That is the very reason the Misc Module was designed, to help you capture unusual activities or events that do not fit into any of the other modules. You simply create a Category and sub Category named for the very task you want. As those entries are entered you now have a complete history trail of that item.

SMS Modules

Part of the SMS mandate is the allowance of non-punitive reporting of Safety Observations or Suggestions. Can AIRMAN do that?

Yes, AIRMAN actually gives the individual the option of remaining anonymous or not. Additionally, follow-up reports are available (when released) so the submitters can track the results/decisions of the Observation/Suggestion.

Wildlife Module

We are using a certain technique against a particular duck. Will AIRMAN tell us how successful this method is?

AIRMAN will not only tell you its success rate in percentage form; it will tell you exactly the percentage of time you actually used it against that species for more accuracy. For example, it will tell you that out of all the encounters with a Black duck, you employed gas cannons 66% of the time with a 48% success rate, and bangers were employed for the other 34% with a success rate of 88%. So it is not hard to see which method is more effective.

Does your program make allowances for reporting bird strikes?

AIRMAN takes bird strikes very seriously. It will categorize all your species into weight classes which will allow you to monitor strike conditions. In other words, you may have had 20 strikes this year but 17 of them were classed as "Very Low". It also displays strikes in red on the demographic map and highlights any "strike involved" data in red within the daily logs. AIRMAN can also produce FAA, Transport Canada, Australian, ICAO, USAF 853 and CF 218 Strike reports. Once completed these reports are available for official submission plus can be collectively queried for trending analysis.

Will the program extract past data to compare it to new data in order to predict trends?

All reports and queries have no restrictions regarding the date/time ranges you apply so you can compare on any date range you desire.

If I need to find out how many times I used my Falcons or Dogs for interventions over a period of time will the program report on it?

Yes, AIRMAN will report exactly where and when these "Live Assets" were used, along with their performance grades.

Can I only return the activities from a certain runway?

Yes. AIRMAN enables you to narrow data down to distinct areas on the airfield. There is no restriction to the number of distinct areas you create nor is there any limit to the size or shape of the area. Pictures can be applied to the areas as well for isolated views.

When the map displays bird strikes, can I see the information particulars on each one?

Yes, just right click on the strike you're interested in and a window will appear containing all the relevant data pertaining to that strike, i.e., date, time etc. Once you have that information it can be printed off.

Does the map printout distinguish between bird strikes and regular encounters?

Yes, you have a choice of displaying either or both.

Can the map printout only a specific species to isolate where the geographical problem is for that species?

Yes, AIRMAN allows you to paint one, many or all species on the map. The choice is yours.

If I trapped something is there a way to report on what I've done with that bird afterwards?

YYes, AIRMAN produces a separate log account of everything trapped. You simply go to that log and account for it with details such as band #, where you released it etc. All this information is available later for reports. AIRMAN also allows you to record advanced biological information on the birds you trap such as Weights, Wing Lengths, etc.
